Naah, I'm not really a beach bum. I got a part-time job though.
Here's the thing about living in San Diego: IT'S EXPENSIVE.
It's even more expensive when you have to fly out every other month to visit your boyfriend who lives a billion miles away.
And, it's even more expensive than that last sentence when you love shopping (and for the record, I have made a pact with myself to abstain from this exercise of weakness).
So. I've got a full-time job doing healthcare and working with fabulous people in the lovely department of Marketing (and let me tell you this: helping to coordinate a department made up of mostly nurses can be stressful, but I love it. I love the people I work with, I love waking up early in the morning to assist with events at our convention center, I love knowing that what we're doing has an immediate impact on the health and well-being of many Southern Californians). It fell into my lap by accident. It is very satisfying.
And. I've got this PT job doing promotions and marketing for a very popular music venue right by the beach! It's fabulous. I found the advertisement over the weekend, scheduled an interview and got the job a couple of days ago. It works well with my other work schedule AND I get free passes to any concert at the venue, free bar tabs, free dinner and breakfast tabs at the venue (which also serves as a daytime restaurant with a spectacular view of the Pacific Ocean) AND get to work these shows!! ANNNNNDD! GET PAID! This Friday: Digital Underground. Humpty Dance, y'all! My boss rocks and so do my co-workers. Oh yeah...AND! I get to work at the beach!! AND my designated district in San Diego (for when we do distribution and promotions of our shows) is Downtown! I am soo schmoozing this up.
And this is how I afford to live in San Diego.
